 LOT 3378
Very Scarce North Korean Type 63 SKS Semi- Automatic Rifle with Sling - Serial no. 0451, 7.62x39 mm cal., 20 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, laminate stock. An exceptional example of a North Korean manufactured variant of the Russian SKS. Reportedly, a limited amount of these were exported for use by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War, and surviving examples are very seldom seen on the American collector market today when compared with other SKS variants. No import marks are visible on this example, indicating it was
likely a Vietnam War bringback. Features a hooded front post and elevation ajutable notched tangent rear sight, integral 10-round box magazine, and replacement folding blade bayonet. Original transliterated serial number is “0451P.” Matching numbers on magazine floor plate, buttstock, top cover, bolt, and trigger guard. The top cover is marked with circled “star” with model type beneath. Fitted with birch handguard and laminate finger groove stock with smooth buttplate. It differs from the other North Korean Type 63 in the auction (Lot 3375) in that it lacks provisions for launching rifle grenades. Includes Chinese pattern green web sling and cleaning kit in butt trap. North Korean Type 63 SKS rifles are seldom offered in any condition on the collector market today, and we have two examples with slight differences offered in this same auction! CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% plus of original blue finish with moderate handling marks and light spotting. Stock is fine with several moderate scratches and numerous scattered scrapes visible along with small hairline cracks at the butt. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
