Rare Cased Pair of Engraved and Silver Accented “Scratch Rifled” C.L. von der Fecht, Berlin Percussion Pistols -A) German Percussion Pistol - NSN, 48 cal., 8 3/4 inch octagon bbl., bright/casehardened/silver finish, walnut stock. These late flintlock era pistols from the early 19th century by Christian Ludwig von der Fecht (1769-1827) of Berlin were professionally converted to percussion early in their working lives. They have scratch rifled barrels with dovetailed German silver, blade front sights, screw adjustable notch rear sights on the standing breeches, primarily scroll and floral engraving, some classical martial motifs, “C.L.v.d. Fecht in Berlin” in silver with scroll accents on the upper barrel flats, silver bands on the breech ends, an inlaid “1” or “2” respectively on the upper tangs, “CL.v.d. FECHT/IN BERLIN” the locks, adjustable single set triggers, spurred trigger guards, silver wire inlaid accents around the stock flats and by the upper tangs, checkered wrists, dark horn forend caps, and contrasting pommel caps. The pair comes in a black leather covered, green felt upholstered hardwood case, containing a mallet/starter, screwdriver, sight adjustment tool, mainspring vice, nipple pick, and a brass powder measure. CONDITION: Very good. The steel overall shows a mixed gray patina with a few hints of the original case color pattern on the lock plate and a replacement hammer and screw. The silver shows mixed aged patina and some slight loss on the breech band. The stock is also very good and has some light pressure dents, a few small chips around the trigger guard and pommel, and some play in the pommel. The set trigger needs some work. The lock is mechanically excellent. The case is fair with the lid coming apart at the seams, material loss, and staining. B) German Percussion Pistol - NSN, 48 cal., 8 3/4 inch octagon bbl., bright/casehardened/silver finish, walnut stock. See “A.” CONDITION: Very good with a bright gray patina on the barrel and a darker gray on the tang and lock, patches of light oxidation, and handling marks. The stock is good with some small cracks on the left flat, some chipping and cracking of the pommel cap, and scattered dents. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500

Cased Pair of Gold Inlaid, Engraved, and Relief Carved Continental European Percussion Target Pistols -A) Percussion Target Pistol - Serial no. 332, 48 cal., 8 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened/gold/silver finish, relief carved walnut stock. The “superfine Damascus” barrels have fine rifling, dovetailed blade front sights, “DAMAS SUPERFIN” in silver and gold inlay, silver and gold inlaid floral patterns and bands, and scroll engraved breech plugs, and the underside of the barrels have “LE,” “1,”HL,” and “332” markings. The standing breeches have screw adjustable notch rear sights. The pistols have back action locks with scroll, border, and floral engraving and adjustable single set triggers. The furniture comprises casehardened and floral engraved spurred trigger guards, trigger plates, side plates, and pommel caps as well as copper wedge escutcheons. The stocks have raised relief carved lion head forend tips with inlaid eyes, scale pattern checkering on the wrists, flared pommels with contrasting ebony carved in petals, and no provisions for ramrods. The highly figured case has green and red lining and is closely fitted to a suite of accessories, some silver plated, and among them a mold, “B.A.P.” powder flask, ladle, rods, mallet, breech plug wrench, and more. CONDITION: Fine with attractive Damascus twist patterns and engraving, light original finish on the barrel, aged patina on the silver and copper, bright gold, 25% original case colors, mostly smooth gray patina on the balance, some mild oxidation concentrated at the breech, and general mild wear. The stock is also fine aside from a crack between the lock and breech and has crisp checkering, nice figure, distinct carving, and light scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are very good with mild age, storage and use related wear such as hammering marks on the face of the mallet. B) Percussion Target Pistol - Serial no. 332, 48 cal., 8 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened/silver/gold finish, relief carved walnut stock. As described in “A.” CONDITION: Fine with attractive Damascus twist patterns and engraving, light original finish on the barrel, aged patina on the silver and copper, bright gold, 25% original case colors most vibrant on the pommel, mostly smooth gray patina on the balance, some light oxidation concentrated at the nipple, and generally mild overall wear. Aside from some chipping of the contrasting pommel edge, the stock is also fine and has crisp checkering and carving, some nice figure, and scattered minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
