Action with sharp engraving, retaining 60% fading reblued inish. Nicely figured semi-pistol grip stock with well-defined checkering, some scattered storage and handling bruises and a small crack on the top right of the stock head. Mechanically excellent. Fine Engraved W.W. Greener 12 Bore “Monarch Grade” Double Barrel Boxlock Ejector Duck Shotgun with Enormous 36 Inch Barrels and Case - Serial no. 49484, 12 gauge, 36 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Built on the famous Anson & Deeley boxlock action in circa 1900. The blued barrels are engraved with a band of scrollwork at the breech. The matted concave rib is signed “W.W. GREENER. 68 HAYMARKET LONDON & WORKS ST. MARY’S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM. WINNER AT THE LONDON GUN TRIALS 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879. MADE FOR W. RAWBONE. CAPE TOWN” and has a bead front sight and scrollwork and a vignette of a partridge engraved at the breech end. The casehardened bolstered treble grip action is
signed “W.W. GREENER” on each side within a ribbon and has a Greener cross bolt and blued toplever. The blued Greener patent side-
mounted safety catch has a gold inlaid “SAFE,” and the blued trigger guard is engraved “GRADE M” on the tang. The whole is engraved with classic English border and scrollwork. The underside of the barrels and the water table have Birmingham nitro proof marks and Greener “Elephant” trademarks, and an
import mark is under the forearm. The well-figured semi-pistol grip stock has a diamond horn drop points, a checkered dark horn buttplate, checkered grip and forearm, a blued Anson push-button forearm release, and a blank gold oval initial escutcheon on the underside of the butt. It comes in a brass cornered
canvas and leather case lined in burgundy baize with a black leather Greener trade label with gilt lettering and snap caps. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): chambers proved at 70 mm (2 3/4 inches); bore diameter 9 inches from the breech both proved at 18.7 mm (.736 inches) and measured at .737/.735 inches, choke constriction .023/.020 inches; minimum wall thickness .029/.031; 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 2 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 8 lbs. CONDITION: Fine as expertly refinished. The barrels, action and furniture each retain nearly all of their renewed finish and have some light handling and storage marks. The high quality replacement stock with fine figure, sharp checkering, and remains virtually blemish free. The case is good with minor wear mainly on the exterior. Mechanically excellent. Very Fine Panel Game Scene Engraved W. & C. Scott & Son “The Premier Quality” Side Lock Duck Gun with Crystal Cocking Indicators and Case - Serial no. 32865, 10 Bore gauge, 30 inch bbl., brown/casehardened/blue/ gold finish, walnut stock. With browned Damascus barrels signed on the rib “W. & C. SCOTT & SON. PATENT TRIPLEX LEVER GRIP. THE PREMIER QUALITY. 10. GT. CASTLE STREET. REGENT CIRCUS. LONDON”, the rib fitted with a bead front sight and with scroll engraved doll’s head extension. The barrel flats struck with London “Not For Ball” black powder proof marks. The casehardened treble grip barrel cocking action and back action locks each finely engraved with scrollwork and vignettes of various waterfowl, the left side of the action engraved “PATENT BLOCK SAFETY HAMMERLESS”, the toplever signed “W. & C. SCOTT & SON PATENT” and the locks each signed “PATENT CRYSTAL INDICATOR”. Automatic safety, single extractor for the cartridges, and action face with Scott patent gas check system. Blued trigger guard engraved en suite and with large gold inlaid cross to the bow. Well figured walnut semi-pistol grip stock with checkered grip and forearm, the latter with Scott Patent latch, and serrated dark horn butt plate. The wrist with large shield shaped gold escutcheon engraved with a monogram. In brass cornered leather fitted takedown case, the lid with black leather W. & C. Scott & Son trade label with gilt lettering, the exterior of the case initialed “K.B.” CONDITION: Barrels with fine Damascus twist pattern and retaining 90% rebrowned finish with some fading and rubbing, signature softened but clear. Action and locks retaining 50% faded original casehardened finish. The spectacular engraving remains crisp and clear. Toplever and trigger guard retaining 30% original blued finish. Crisp gold inlaid cross to the trigger guard. Stock with some handling and storage marking and bruising, attractive figure and crisp checkering. The forearm is missing its horn finial, and there a longitudinal chips to the forward edges of the forearm wood. Case more recent than the gun, generally in good condition. Mechanically excellent.
