Magnificent Master
Factory Engraved
and Gold Inlaid
Premier “F” Grade
Remington Model
740 F Semi-Automatic
Rifle - Serial no. 1002, 30-06 cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut stock. A product of the Remington Custom Shop, the Premier Grade represented
the top tier of Remington’s factory offerings. Starting with a full top-to-bottom hand fitting of all components in the firearm,
the Premier arm would also receive detailed engraving and top rate gold inlay in addition to a very fancy walnut stock; the metal
work alone could represent 80 man-hours of work. In addition to the ramp blade front sight, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and
standard markings, the barrel is decorated with a 2 3/8 inch wedge of punch-dot backed scroll engraving at the breech. The receiver coverage is over
95% fine scroll and punch dots with line and dot accents along the lower edges, hand-engraved model markings/serial number on the underside, an engraved magazine and an engraved mountain goat’s head on top. Both sides show three outdoor scene panels with gold inlaid animals. The left shows a walking moose, a bugling elk, and a running deer, and the right shows a walking bear, a ram standing at the edge of a rock, and a wildcat laying in wait. Both sides are signed with the single initial “E” at the center believed to be the mark of Remington engraver and R&D man Carl Ennis, and each side depicts a single unified scene with a series of hills on the left and a mountain range on the right. Checkered extra-fancy pistol grip stock with an engraved cap on the beavertail forearm, hard rubber Remington grip cap, a “M/R/W” inscribed panel on the underside and a checkered plastic buttplate.
CONDITION: Excellent with 99% plus original blue finish, some light wear near the muzzle and minor handling marks overall. The engraving is everything you would expect from a Remington Master Engraver with both steel and gold finely cut and detailed. The stock is excellent showing a few dings and some varnish loss, as well as sharp checkering, excellent grain and color, and the feathering on the left side of the buttstock being exceptionally fine. Mechanically excellent.
