CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 98% original blue with some areas of light spotting, 60% original case colors with the balance a brown and grey patina, mild handling evidence, a slight chip at the toe of the buttplate, and well-defined checkering. Factory Engraved Ithaca Grade 5E Lewis Model Double Barrel Shotgun with Factory Letter - Serial no. 119499, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued Damascus steel barrels with a single brass bead sight on the matted solid rib and chambers measured 3 inches with automatic ejectors. The casehardened boxlock action displays attractively carved bolsters and fine floral scrollwork surrounding game scenes depicting a pair of setters on the left, a pair of game birds on the underside, and a pair of pointers on the right. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Beautifully figured, fancy multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and an ebony tip inlay and pistol grip stock with fleur-de-lis checkering, hard rubber grip cap, blank inscription shield, and hard rubber
buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the current barrel length, gauge, grade, and barrel steel when the gun was finished on January 4, 1905 and sold to Norvell Shapleigh, the St. Louis based hardware company. LOT 1358 Antique Factory Engraved Ithaca Grade 4E Crass Model Double Barrel Shotgun Two Barrel Set with Factory Letter - Serial no. 29878, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blue Damascus steel barrels with a single white bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, chambers measures at 3 inches with automatic ejectors, ns of .027/.027 inches. The casehardened action displays broad floral scroll with dog scenes on either side, a game bird scene on the underside, and an “MSC” monogram on the triggerguard. The gun features gold double triggers and tang mounted safety. Beautifully figured, fancy checkered splinter forend with engraved shoe and ebony tip inlay and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval and Ithaca hard rubber buttplate. Includes an extra set of 26 inch barrels with .000/.000 choke constriction. The above configuration is confirmed by the included factory letter, including the extra barrel set, when the gun was completed November 9, 1897. Stock measurements: 1 7/8 inch drop at comb; 3 1/4 inch drop at heel; 13 7/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs 4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining strong Damascus patterns on the barrels, traces of case colors on the action with some areas having been polished, and overall light handling evidence. There are various cracks coming off the butt and stock head; otherwise, the wood is fine with scattered dings and scratches, light sanding, and sharp re-cut checkering. The 30 inch set of barrels have had the chambers lengthened. The extra barrels are very fine with the exception of having the chokes bored out. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Factory Engraved L. C. Smith/Hunter Arms Co. Grade 3E Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 201503, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued nitro steel barrels with single brass bead sight on the matted concave solid rib which is marked “HUNTER ARMS. CO. FULTON, N.Y.”, chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors, and choke constrictions of .011/.044 inches. The casehardened sidelock action displays scroll engraving surrounding an oval game bird scene on either side as well as “L. C. SMITH”. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted safety switch. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and ebony tip and round
knob pistol grip stock with red rubber recoil pad. Stock measurements: 1 3/4 inch drop at comb; 2 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs 13 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% refinished blue on the barrels with areas of light surface oxidation, 40% original case colors with the balance an attractive silver, two small dents on the right barrel, mild handling evidence mostly concentrated on the wood, dried and cracking recoil pad, and overall sharp wood checkering.
