Engraved “Seglas” All-Metal Four Barrel Swivel Breech Box Lock Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 32 cal., 2
inch round bbl., bright finish, maple grips. Israel Segalas was a French Huguenot who migrated to England in the late 17th century and was active as
a gunmaker in London in the early
18th century. Many, likely most, pistols
signed “Seglas,”“Segallas,” or “Segalas”
were actually manufactured in France
and Belgium by other gunmakers looking to capitalize on
his name. This un-proofed example is marked “London”
on the right, “Seglas” on the left in script and has
fancy Rococo scrollwork throughout with some martial accents. The
“cannon” style barrels are rifled, and the trigger guard acts as the release to
rotate them.
CONDITION: Very good plus with gray patina, light pitting, crisp engraving, and mild wear. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
