Charles Erb/Colt M16A2 Selective Fire Rifle,
Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun - Serial no. SP326814, 223
cal., 20 inch round bbl., matte black finish, synthetic stock. Originally made by
Colt c.1974 as an AR-15 A2 semi-automatic rifle, this item has been reworked by
Charles Erb of Fredericktown, PA as a “M16A2” marked full automatic rifle (though the
overall features are not all the A2 pattern). Post front and two-leaf peep rear sighs, with
an A2 flash hider on “C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7” marked HBAR profile barrel with a bayonet
lug, round handguard, low profile casing deflector and forward assist. The lower
receiver has both the original commercial and the Erb rework markings, with a right
handed three position “SAFE”/”FIRE”/”AUTO” selector, checkered
pistol grip and a fixed buttstock. During the upgrade, the trigger
pocket was milled out and a pin hole drilled to accept the auto-
sear, a full auto trigger group installed, a full auto bolt group (“C”
marked carrier, “MPC” head, both
matte black), and minor milling
to the underside of the
upper receiver.
CONDITION: Very fine as converted to full auto, with 95% of the matte black phosphate finish, showing mild wear and handling marks overall. The furniture is in equal condition. The front hinge pin is an offset model intended for mating uppers and lowers with different pin hole sizes, though both the upper and lower on this item have .318 inch internal diameter pin holes; if improperly positioned, the pin creates significant play between the upper and lower. Otherwise the item is mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
Estimate: 16,000 - 25,000
