Factory Engraved William Evans Sidelock
“Ball & Shot” Gun with Case - Serial no. 7625, 12
gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., black/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Completed circa 1906 according
to page 107 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. Built with blued steel barrels
featuring a beaded blade front sight, two-folding leaf rear sight on the matted rear quarter rib, “BALL &
SHOT” marked on the sunken portion of the rib, “WILLIAM EVANS (FROM PURDEY’S)” and “63 PALL MALL.
St. JAMES’S, LONDON.” marked on the left and right respectively, import mark on right tube, and period
London nitro proof marks on the flats. The chambers measure 2 1/2 inches with ejectors and each tube has a rifled muzzle in the same fashion as Holland &
Holland’s famous Paradox Guns. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened sidelock bar-action which displays extensive classic bouquet and scroll engraving with
“WILLIAM EVANS” signatures on either lockplate. The gun features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted
with an attractively figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved iron and Anson button as well as a straight hand stock with blank silver inscription oval and Silver’s type recoil
pad. Includes a maker’s black crocodile leather flat case with nickel snap caps, nickel oil pot, and cleaning rod. Length of pull 14 1/2 inches. Weight 7 lbs. 12 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% blue finish, strong traces of the original case colors with the balance an attractive grey patina, a few tiny pits, tiny splits in the
wood at the rear of each lockplate and forend, some handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the wood. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some tearing on the straps and
storage and transit wear.

Massive Factory Engraved H. A. Lindner/Charles
Daly 8 Bore Boxlock Double Barrel Duck Gun - Serial no. 2143, 8 gauge, 34 1/4
inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This massive 8 gauge
was built by H. A. Lindner around the turn of the 20th century and retailed by Charles Daly of New
York. The gun has blued steel barrels featuring dual nickel bead sights on the matted concave solid rib which is
marked “CHARLES DALY KRUPP FLUID STEEL BARRELS”, a
band of engraving at the breech, Lindner’s “HAL/crossed
pistols” mark on ahead of the flats, front sling stud, and
period German proof marks on the flats. The barrels are
fitted to the casehardened boxlock action which features
carved fences, “CHARLES DALY” signatures on either
side, and lovely scrollwork which flows onto the trigger
guard, toplever, and both tangs. The gun features a third
fastener in the standing breech, double triggers, cocking indicators, and a tang
mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a handsomely figured and multi-point
checkered splinter forend with engraved iron, a Deeley type release, and a black tip as well as a semi-pistol grip stock
with carved drop points, blank inscription oval, rear sling stud, and an added Pachmayr recoil pad. Stock measurements: 1
13/16 inch drop at comb; 2 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 13 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 95% original blue finish 60% plus original case colors, some minor spotting, and light handling evidence. The wood is very fine as freshened, with a
small stress line at either side of the stock head, some marks, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
