Highly Attractive Pair of Factory Engraved John Dickson & Son Round Body Double Barrel
Shotguns -A) John Dickson & Son Round Body Shotgun - Serial no. 7350, 12 gauge, 28 inch
solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This lovely pair was completed in 1936
according to page 81 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmaker’s Volume Two: Birmingham, Scotland &
the Regions”. Fewer than 2,000 of these Round Action guns have been produced by John Dickson &
Son since their introduction in 1880. Each gun in the pair was built with blued steel barrels featuring a
single bead sight on the smooth concave game rib which is marked “JOHN DICKSON & SON 32 HANOVER STREET EDINBURGH.” along with a gold “1” or “2”
at the base respectively, a band of engraving at the breech, import mark on the under rib, period London proof marks on the flats, and chambers marked
for 2 1/2 inch shells with automatic ejectors. The barrels of each gun are fitted to the elegant casehardened Dickson round body triggerplate action which
displays classic bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “JOHN DICKSON & SON.” signatures on either side and gold inlaid “DICKSONS/PATENT” marking
on the triggerplate before continuing to the toplever which is marked with a gold “1” or “2”, trigger guard, and both tangs. The guns both feature double
triggers and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The guns are both fitted with an attractively figured and multi-point
checkered forend with engraved iron and Anson button release with a gold inlaid “1” or “2” as well as a straight hand stock with blank gold inscription oval
and a checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at “12” (.729 inches) and measured
.732/.733 inches; choke constriction .008/.018 inches; minimum wall thickness .021/.022 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel;
14 9/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% blue finishes, some traces of original case colors on the action in the protected areas, 99%
gold inlays, some minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. B) John Dickson & Son Round Body

CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, with 98% blue finish, traces of original case colors with the balance a fine silver patina, 99% gold inlays, light
handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. A fantastic opportunity to own a lovely pair of Scottish doubles!
