All three guns also feature a right hand
rolled trigger guard, a single trigger, gold
centerlined cocking indicators on both lockplates,
and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid
“SAFE” indicator.
Each gun in the set is fitted with a fantastic, stunningly
well-figured walnut forend and stock of the highest
quality. The forends are of the English pattern and feature
fine multi-point checkering with mullered borders and
irons which are embellished to match the rest of the
guns with a gold inlaid “1”, “2”, or “3” on the push-button
release. All three guns also feature a straight hand stock
with matching checkering, traditional drop points,
and checkered butts. Guns “1” and “2” show and “RML”
monogram in the gold inscription oval while gun “3” has
a blank gold oval.
Mr. Nelson has generously confirmed the above
configurations and engraving by Master Engraver Ken C.
Hunt when the guns were delivered to Mr. Robert M. Lee
in 1994/1995. Gun “3”, serial number 1151, is pictured and
discussed on the title page of “The Art of the Gun Volume
V of V: Modern Firearms Masterpieces” by Robert M. Lee
and R. L. Wilson, as well as on pages 34 and 35 of the
same book.
All three guns are housed in the magnificent triple gun
oak and black goat skin flat case by renowned maker
Vincent Rickards. The case is lined in red goat skin with
lizard pattern plating and features horn marquetry in the
corners, a black calf skin plated leather protective outer
cover, and P. V. Nelson’s information on the interior lid in
gold filigree. In addition to the guns, the case houses a
full compliment of Mike Marsh tools including six nickel-
silver and horn snap caps, horn handled chamber brush,
a set of three horn handled turn screws, a horn handled
cleaning rod (with attachments), three nickel-silver oil
bottles with horn accents, and three nickel-silver striker
jars with horn accents. The case and accessories are truly
worthy of the guns they were designed to protect and
service.
Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter
nine inches from the breech both proofed and measured
at 18.5 mm (.728 inches); choke constriction .010/.005
inches; minimum wall thickness .024/.026 inches; 1 1/2
inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 15 3/16 inch
length of pull; very slight cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 11 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original
black and brushed bright finishes with minimal handling
evidence and sharp checkering on the stock and forend.
Mechanically excellent. The case is also excellent.
