Desirable Documented New York Militia Issued David F. Clark Inspected U.S.
Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial no. 120792, 45 Long Colt
cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. This U.S. contract Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army revolver was
manufactured in 1887 and inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark, and was later one of 800 reportedly issued to the New
York Militia. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver as sold to the U.S. government and originally shipped in a 400 gun shipment
on March 21, 1887, to the U.S. government inspector located at the Colt plant, in .45 caliber, blue finish, with barrel length and type of grip not
listed, with a remark on the letter indicating this is usually an indication of a 7 1/2 inch barrel length and walnut grip. The factory letter further
indicates this revolver was returned to the factory for refurbishing, stating that the barrel was not shortened during the factory refurbishment, and
again delivered back to the U.S. government inspector at the Colt plant on October 11, 1895. This revolver is listed by serial number as a known New
York Militia issued revolver on page 81 of “Colt Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers...a Continuing Study” by Kopec and Fenn. Small “D.F.C.” inspection initials
stamped on the underside of the barrel, bottom of the frame above the serial number, and side of the cylinder, with “R.A.C.” initials of Rinaldo A. Carr
on the left butt of the grip. The replacement “D.F.C.” inspected barrel has the one-line Hartford barrel address, removed number under the ejector housing, and the frame has the three-line patent
date markings followed by the “U.S” property mark. “P” proofmarks are stamped on the underside of the barrel and side of the cylinder. Matching visible serial numbers on the bottom of the frame,
trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder, with assembly number “820” on the loading gate. A New York rack number “23” is stamped on the butt of the back strap.
CONDITION: Very good, retains 20% blue finish and case colors in protected areas, with smooth brown and gray patina on the balance, light oxidation, and legible markings in the metal. Grip is
also fine with some light handling marks. Mechanically functions. This is a solid representative example of a New York Militia issued U.S. Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army revolver!

LOT 1054
Antique Winchester Model 1892
Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 83045, 32 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue
finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1897, this is a solid example of the Winchester Model 1892 rifle. These rifles were widely popular well into the
20th century in the American West, or any other region where the Colt “Peacemaker” was the preferred sidearm, as they shared many of the same calibers as
the famous legendary Colt. The top barrel flat has the standard two-line address and the caliber marking at the breech. The three-line model, trademark, and
patent date information is on the upper tang, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight
(bead absent) and an elevation adjustable notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% of the original blue finish and faint traces of both the original case colors and nitre blue on the lever, hammer, and loading gate, with the
balance mostly a grey-brown patina and a few very small patches of light surface spotting/freckling. The refinished wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and
scratches. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
LOT 1053
Highly Desirable Antique, First Year Production, Three Digit Serial Number Winchester First Model 1894 Lever
Action Rifle in .38-55 W.C.F. with “10 O’Clock” Screw Frame and Factory Letter - Serial no. 498, 38-55 WCF cal., 26 inch
octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1894, the first year of production, this is a solid example of the very
desirable Winchester First Model 1894 rifle. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .38-55 caliber with an octagon barrel and
plain trigger when received at the warehouse on 19 November 1894, shipped on 26 November 1894, and returned/repaired on 12 March 1895.
These early production Model 1894s often saw hard use in the American West, much of which still remained very “untamed” well into the 20th century, leaving very
few surviving examples available to collectors in any condition. These early First Model ‘94s laid the foundation for what would become one of the most popular and renowned hunting rifles of all
time, as well as Winchester’s most successful sporting rifle, with over 7,500,000 produced. While the Model 1873 is remembered as “the gun that won the west” and the Model 70 is referred to as
“the rifleman’s rifle”, the Model 1894 has been given the endearing nickname “the rifle America loves”. The receiver on this example is a “First Model” featuring an extra screw on either side which has
become know as a “10 o’clock screw” by collectors, due to its position in relation to the loading gate. These First Model receivers are sporadically seen into as high as the 6000 serial number range, as the factory used up receivers in
no particular order. The top flat of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model, trademark, and patent information, while the
early, three-digit serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a No. 21 German silver “Sporting” front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 24 notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip
stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very good, retaining strong traces of the original blue finish in sheltered areas, faint case color patterns on the hammer and lever, and 20% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance mostly a
grey patina, some scattered brown freckling, and a few scattered patches of light pitting. The wood is also very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This is a solid example of a first year
production, three-digit serial number Winchester Model 1894 rifle with rare “10 o’clock” screw frame!
Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000

Fine Antique
Special Order
Winchester Model 1873
Lever Action Rifle with Extra Length 28 Inch Barrel - Serial no. 227242B, 38 WCF cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured
in 1887, this is a fine example of a special ordered Winchester Model 1873, “the gun that won the West”. These ‘73 rifles and carbines were extremely desirable
in the American West due to sharing a range of calibers with Colt’s prolific Single Action Army revolver, allowing one to pair a long gun and sidearm that used
the same ammunition. This example has the third model receiver with the integral dust cover guide and the dust cover having the grip serrations at the rear. The top
barrel flat is marked with the standard two-line address/King’s patent marking and the caliber marking at the breech, which is repeated on the bottom of the cartridge elevator.
The upper tang has the model designation and the serial number is on the lower tang. The special ordered 28 inch barrel is fitted with a period replacement brass blade front sight, an elevation
adjustable No. 22 “Sporting” notch rear sight, with the “wings” filed lower during the period of use. It is mounted with smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% plus of the original blue finish, 40% of the original case colors on the hammer and lever, and 50% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to
mostly a plum brown patina, some scattered patches of light surface pitting, and a few minor dings. The wood is also fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The Brig & Louise Pemberton Collection.
Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
