The action features extensive relief chiseled scrollwork with gold inlaid accents, eagle mask designs on top ahead of the
relief chiseled stag scene which has “NOWAK” gold inlaid above and “W PRAZE” in gold inlay below, and chiseled bestial mask
hammers. The trigger guard has “N=/1055” in gold on the rear and chiseled and gold inlaid scrollwork and martial designs. The
right trigger is single set, and the left trigger is plain. The trigger guard has a carved ebony grip extension. The beautifully figured
stock features fine checkering with relief carved foliate designs, gold escutcheons, a round cheekpiece with incised edge, and a
highly detailed satyr/devil mask carved at the bottom of the wrist. The buttplate has coordinating relief chiseled and gold
inlaid scroll motifs and a boar’s head at the heel. Sling swivels are mounted to the mid ramrod ferrule and
underside of the butt. Includes a nickel silver mounted wood ramrod.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine overall with 90% plus of the original “tobacco” brown finish and distinct twist
patterns along the barrel, 75% original case colors, bright gold inlays throughout, crisp relief chiseled and
carved designs throughout, and fairly minor overall wear mainly consisting of some ding and scratches on
the wood. Mechanically excellent. This is certainly a stunning fine art quality early percussion shotgun.
Provenance: The Collection of Jim Box.
Estimate: 16,000 - 25,000
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining original Damascus
patterns, attractive silvered patina on the action,
and some minor oxidation. There are some cracks
at the butt in the scroll; otherwise, the wood is
fine with some edge wear, some dings, and crisp
checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500
