Engraved and Extensively Inlaid Marcus Zelner and Johann Entzinger Marked Wheellock Rifle - NSN, 28 bore/.54 cal., 32 1/4
inch octagon bbl., bright finish, fruitwood stock. This rifle was assembled c. late 19th century with a late 17th century swamped octagonal barrel with
seven-groove rifling, “JOHANN ENTZINGER” signed on top, dovetailed blade and notch sights, and a beaded border and “2” at the breech. The early 18th century flat lockplate is
signed “MARCUS ZELNER/IN WIENN” and is engraved with complex interlacing scrolls. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers. The stock features extensive staghorn, bone,
and/or ivory inlays engraved with a variety of foliate and hunting designs, including stag and bear hunting scenes on the left side. The trigger guard has a “P.L.” marked lead collection
tag and “67” and “432” marked brass inventory tags. The short wooden ramrod has an engraved tip.
CONDITION: Very good overall with silver-gray patina on the barrel, darker gray patina on the lock, minor pitting, aged patina on the brass mounts, some cracks and repairs in the stock,
some inlays partially loose and/or replaced, and mild overall wear. The lock is untested. The set triggers function.

Scarce “1637” Dated Left Eye Dominant Wheellock Rifle with
Engraved Stock Inlays - NSN, 66 cal., 34 inch octagon bbl., bright finish, fruitwood
stock. This unusual German wheellock rifle’s barrel is dated “1637” ahead of the notch rear sight
and has “S” and “H” along with a sunken pair of marks at the breech. The lock is built with a bent tail
and appropriate modifications to the internals to work with the offset stock designed to allow a right
handed shooter to use their left eye. It has a brass wheel cover engraved with eagles and scrollwork. The
stock has engraved staghorn inlays, and the inlay at the barrel tang is marked “CZ”. The patchbox lid has foliate designs and a
bear scene. The cheekpiece edge plate is inscribed “-R-A-H-Z-B-V-L”.
CONDITION: Good overall with silver-gray patina on the lock and barrel, mild pitting, some replacement parts and repairs, small worm holes and cracks in the stock, and
moderate wear. Lock not tested. The set triggers function.
