World War II U.S. Auto-Ordnance/Savage
M1A1 Thompson Submachine Gun, Class III/NFA C&R Fully
Transferable Machine Gun, with Accessories - Serial no. 269965, 45 ACP cal., 10
1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Introduced in 1942, the M1A1 was
the final wartime revision of the Thompson Submachine Gun, further streamlining
the design for more efficient production without compromising the core of the
Thompson as a powerful and reliable “heavy metal” weapon. While on paper the
M1A1 was made obsolete by the M3/M3A1 and delegated to substitute status,
the M1A1 would serve with distinction through World War II and Korea, as well
as with American allies up through the Vietnam War. Blade front and fixed peep
rear sights, with a horizontal handguard, and an “S” marked machined receiver
with multiple military inspector marks (FJA, GEG). The matching numbered trigger
housing has dual control switches, a fixed buttstock, and a grooved
pistol grip. The internals are proper M1A1 pattern, with a fixed firing
pin and no provision for an oiler or Blish lock, “S” marked bolt,
charging handle, spring guide and buffer. Included with the lot
are fourteen extra stick magazines and three canvas
magazine pouches.
CONDITION: Very good, with 90% plus dark refinished blue,
showing areas of sub-surface pitting, along with light scratches and
handling marks. The stock is very good, with a pinned and filled
crack in the buttstock and a number of scuffs, dents and stains.
Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms
Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau
of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a
“Curios or Relic” as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject
to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
