Antique Factory Engraved George Gibbs Farquharson Patent Falling
Block Single Shot Rifle - Serial no. 12815, 48 bore cal., 28 inch flat top round bbl.,
blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1885 according to page
108 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. The rifle was built with a
blued barrel featuring a beaded blade front sight and a two-leaf (one standing, one folding)
express rear sight on the full length sighting flat which is marked “MEDFORD’S PATENT. 1333.
GEORGE GIBBS. 29. CORN STREET, BRISTOL”, Birmingham proof marks on the underside beneath
the forend, and a the front sling eye on the underside. The barrel is fitted to the casehardened
action which is marked “FARQUHARSON/PATENT/494” on the upper right and “GEORGE GIBBS/BRISTOL” on
the left both surrounded by near full coverage beautifully executed classic English bouquet and scroll engraving
which extends to the trigger guard, upper tang, and action lever. The rifle features a safety lever on the right side of
the action with a sliding retaining latch. The rifle is fitted with a richly figured and multi-point checkered forend with horn tip and a
pistol grip stock with horn grip cap, rear sling eye, inscription oval marked “W. S./Tyler/Jr.”, and a horn buttplate.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% blue and casehardened finishes, minor handling evidence, and
sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. A Great chance to own
a lovely example of an English single shot rifle!

Factory Engraved W. J. Jeffery & Co. Farquharson Patent Single Shot Rifle in
.450/400 Nitro Express - Serial no. 9242, 450/400 cal., 22 3/8 inch round bbl., blue/
casehardened finish, walnut stock. This rifle was originally completed between 1899 and 1901
according to Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London” and was then built into the
current configuration later in the 20th century. The rifle has a the shortened original blued barrel
which is marked “-SPECIAL-GUN-/-BARREL-STEEL-” and “-FRIED.KRUPP-/-ESSEN-” around the Krupp
logo along with period Birmingham proof marks and a later stamped “CAL. 450/400 NITRO” caliber
marking on the left side near the breech. The rifle features a ramped blade fore sight and an adjustable rear
notch sight. The barrel is fitted to the lovely casehardened Farquharson action which shows border scroll engraving, a
safety lever on the right, and “W. J. JEFFERY & Co. 13 KING St. S. JAMES’S on the left side. The rifle is fitted with a lightly figured full length
forend and pistol grip stock with deep multi-point checkering, a black forend tip, checkered blue steel grip cap and buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% blue finish, 95% original vibrant case colors, some light handling evidence, a
few pressure marks on the wood, detached front forend hanger, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
