The guns are both fitted with a beautifully
figured and mullered border multi-point
checkered splinter forend with engraved
blue iron and casehardened Anson button
release with gold inlaid “1” or “2” as well as a
straight hand stock with teardrop carved drop
points, “JEI” in the gold inscription oval, and a
checkered bare butt. Included with the guns
is a maker’s leather two gun motor case with
“J.E.I.” stamped on the lid and four nickel snap
caps. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L):
bore diameter nine inches from the breech
proofed and measured at .728 inches; choke
constriction .011/.020 inches; minimum wall
thickness .025/.026 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at
comb; 1 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 15/16 inch
length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 10 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall as professionally
refurbished, retaining 97% blue and
casehardened finishes with minor handling
evidence, slight plum hue on the barrels,
a slight chip at the rear right corner of the
forend, minor blue loss on the trigger guard/
lower tang, a few pressure marks on the
wood, and sharp checkering on the stock
and forend. Mechanically excellent. The case
is very fine with minor storage/transit wear.
B) John Rigby & Co. Sidelock Shotgun -
Serial no. 18457, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib
bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, walnut
stock. As described in “A”. Barrel and stock
measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine
inches from the breech proofed and measured
at .728 inches; choke constriction .010/.020 inches;
minimum wall thickness .026/.028 inches; 1 3/8 inch
drop at comb; 1 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 15/16 inch
length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 10 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall as professionally
refurbished, retaining 97% plus blue and
casehardened finishes with very slight plum hue
on the barrels and trigger guard, minor handling
evidence, a few scratches on the wood, a couple
scuffs on the barrels, and sharp checkering on the
stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. A fine
opportunity to own a pair of guns from one of the
oldest and most storied maker’s in Europe!
