Wonderful Factory Engraved John Rigby & Co./Mauser Bolt
Action Dangerous Game Rifle in .450 Rigby with Case - Serial no. 10663, 450 Rigby cal., 22 inch
round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. John Rigby & Co. have been some of the finest makers in the
British Isle for 250 years, crafting some of the finest guns and rifles the world has ever known. This rifle was completed in 2015 to very high
specifications with a blued stepped-down barrel featuring a bead blade fore sight
on an island base, rear quarter rib with a three-leaf (one standing, one folding)
rear sight with gold centerlines and distances of “65”, “150”, and “250”, barrel band
with front sling swivel, “JOHN RIGBY & Co. 13-19 PENSBURY PLACE, LONDON, SWS”,
London proof marks, and the caliber “.450 RIGBY” at the left of the chamber. The
barrel is fitted to the square rear bridge Mauser M98 Magnum controlled round
feed action which is marked “RIGBY’S/SPECIAL/.450 BORE/FOR/BIG GAME” on the
round front bridge, Mauser marking on the left rail, and small import mark. The
action displays a nitre blued extractor, magazine follower, and ejector box, three panel checkered bolt handle with gold inlaid Rigby “double
R” logo, and a rear peep sight attached to the casehardened bolt shroud which is also marked with a gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The
bottom metal is blue with gold inlaid serial number on the inside-the-bow release trigger guard and a Rigby scroll engraved casehardened
straddle floorplate. The rifle is fitted with a stunning highly figured Grade 7 pistol grip stock with mullered border multi-point checkering,
casehardened and Tudor rose engraved recoil bolt, casehardened and engraved trapdoor grip cap containing a spare front sight and with
a gold inlaid Rigby logo on the door, shadowline cheekpiece, two letter initials in the silver inscription oval, rear sling swivel, and a leather
covered recoil pad. Includes a Rigby branded Americase with a leather sling and a test target.
CONDITION: Excellent and virtually unfired, retaining 99% original blue and casehardened finishes with minor handling evidence on the
metal. The wood is very fine with a few handling scratches, some thinning of the finish in a few places, and sharp checkering. Mechanically
