Magnificent Factory Ken Hunt Signed and Game Scene Master Engraved J. Rigby & Co. Sidelock Dangerous Game
Double Rifle in .470 Nitro Express with Case - Serial no. 18412, 470 Nitro Express cal., 25 inch solid rib bbl., black/brushed bright finish,
walnut stock. J. Rigby & Co. are among the most elite gunmakers in the world and have spent the last 250 years building some of the finest guns
and rifles out there. This rifle was built with black steel saddle lump barrels featuring a ramped blade fore sight, three-leaf (one standing, two folding)
rear sight with gold centerlines for 100, 200, and 300 yards on the rear quarter rib, “J. RIGBY & CO. 13 PALL MALL, LONDON. S.W.1.” and “CAL. 470 Nitro
Express 500 gr bullet.” engraved on the right and left tubes respectively, attractive scrollwork at the breech and on the doll’s head screw grip extension,
front sling swivel on the under rib ahead of the forend, 1982 dated London proof marks, import mark on the under rib, and chambers with automatic
ejectors. The barrels are mated with a gorgeous brushed bright dipped edge bar-action sidelock with carved fences, which displays near full coverage
floral scroll engraving surrounding “J. Rigby & Co./London” signatures on either side of the action bar, “CAL/.470/NITRO” inlaid in gold inside a gold shield
shaped border, and a trio of dangerous game scenes cut by the hand of one of the greatest engravers of the last 100 year, Master Engraver Ken C. Hunt.
The left lockplate shows a lion and a lioness standing alert on the savanna searching for their next meal, the underside shows a pair of bull elephants
charging towards the observer, and the right lockplate shows a trio of “black death” cape buffalo bulls giving their
signature “you own me money” look while standing on the open savanna. Mr. Hunt cut all three scenes in stunning
high detail and signed his name “K. C. Hunt” at the bottom of the lion and cape buffalo scenes. The rifle features bushed
firing pins, ribbed cocking indicators on either lockplate, dual triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold
inlaid “SAFE” marking. The rifle is fitted with a highly attractive well-figured and multi-point checkered beavertail forend
with engraved casehardened iron and push-rod release as well as a pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points,
black horn grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, “J.E.I.” marked in the gold inscription oval, rear sling swivel, and Silver’s
type recoil pad. Included is a handsome factory oak & black leather flat case with brass furniture marked “J.E.I.” on the
lid and containing a factory data sheet with 1984 completion date, a pair of nickel snap caps, a oiler, snapping block,
turnscrews, and a cleaning funnel. Length of pull 14 13/16 inches. Weight 11 lbs. 4 oz.
