Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver with Scarce Blue Finish in Desirable .44-40 W.C.F. - Serial no. 117, 44-40 WCF cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Also
known as the “Improved Army” or “Frontier Army”, the Model 1875 Revolver was manufactured from 1875 to 1889 with this example having the scarce factory blue finish. Seldom are these Remington Model 1875s
found in blue finish, and the few that are generally have little finish remaining after many hard years on the Western Frontier.
These Remington 1875s are arguably a better designed, sturdier revolver than Colt’s Single Action Army, however, their sales suffered
due to Colt’s two year head start and receipt of government contracts. These 1875 revolvers seem to have been preferred by at least some frontier outlaws, including Frank and Jesse James, possibly due to generally being available for a lower price than their Colt or Smith & Wesson competitors. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard one-line E. Remington & Sons address. The matching serial/batch number is marked on the left of the grip frame, trigger guard tang, loading gate, and faintly hand marked inside both grip panels in pencil. The left grip panel is stamped “44.W.” on the outside for .44-40 W.C.F., as opposed to Remington’s proprietary .44 Remington CF. It is fitted with a replacement pinched blade front sight, modified groove rear sight, a pair of smooth walnut grips, and a lanyard ring on the butt. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish and 95% of the vibrant original case colors on the hammer and loading gate with some light edge and high spot wear, most noticeable at the muzzle and grip straps in the form of holster/handling wear and a light cylinder drag line. The replacement front sight has been repaired/ reset with cold blue visible on the top of the muzzle area of the barrel. The rear sight notch has also been filed and repaired. The grips are excellent with a few scattered light dings and crisp caliber marking. Mechanically excellent. These blued Remington Model 1875 revolvers are rarely seen with this much finish remaining, don’t miss your opportunity! Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500

Attractive
Remington Model 1875 Single Action
Army Revolver - Serial no. 11, 44-40 WCF cal.,
7 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, antique ivory
grips. Manufactured from beginning in 1875, with a total of approximately 25,000-
30,000 produced, these revolvers were sometimes termed the “Frontier Army” or “Improved Army”. These revolvers were intended
to be a competitor to the venerable Colt Single Action Army, and Remington’s contribution to the competition is beyond admirable.
Having fewer main components than the Colt, including a grip frame that is machined solid with the frame, the Remington is arguably a far more solid sidearm. Many people from various backgrounds on the Western Frontier recognized the quality of the 1875 and may have been enticed by the lower price compared to Colt and Smith & Wesson; two of these people were the famous outlaws Frank and Jesse James. This example has the
standard single-line E. Remington & Sons address on top of the barrel. The left side of the trigger guard is marked “44”, designating this revolver as .44-40 W.C.F.
rather than the proprietary .44 Remington CF. The matching, two-digit serial/batch number is marked on the left of the grip frame, trigger guard tang, loading gate, and in pencil
inside each of the grip panels. It is fitted with a blade front sight, groove rear sight, a pair of smooth grips, and a lanyard ring on the butt.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 95% plus of the bright polished original nickel finish with a few scattered patches of light spotting, a few scattered specks of light flaking/surface pitting, and a light cylinder drag line. The grips are excellent with a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. An exceptionally fine example of what may be the highest quality revolver of the Wild West! Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500
