Factory Engraved and Gold Inlaid H. A. Lindner/ Charles Daly Diamond Quality Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 1333, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock. The gun has blued steel barrels featuring dual white bead sights on the
matted solid rib which is marked “CHARLES DALY DIAMOND
QUALITY” in fine gold inlay, deep cut floral scroll engraving at either breech, period German proofs on the flats, H. A. Lindner’s “HAL/crossed pistols” maker’s marks, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The
casehardened sideclipped boxlock action displays deep cut floral scroll engraving over a matted background surrounding four gold inlaid game scenes. The left has a pair of quail, the underside shows a pair of mallards taking flight, the right has a pair of quail in flight, and the triggerguard shows a single pigeon in flight. The gun features double triggers, cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and a horn tip and round knob pistol grip stock with checkered teardrop flats, horn grip inlay, “RGS” in the gold inscription oval, and a brown rubber recoil pad. Includes a letter of provenance stating the gun was owned by Alfred H. Caspary, a member of the New York Stock Exchange and renowned philatelist whose collection sold for a total of over $30,000,000 in today’s dollars. Also included is an Abercrombie & Fitch Co. mutton leg takedown case and work order to Griffin & Howe listing the services rendered including the changing of the stock oval to the current initials. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .728/.728 inches; choke constriction .016/.039 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.029 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 7/16 inch drop at heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 14 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% original blue, 60% original muted case colors mostly in the protected areas, light handling evidence, a few dings and scratches in the freshened stock and forend, slight chip at the upper tang, and crisp checkering on the wood. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 7,000

CONDITION: Very fine overall as professionally refurbished, retaining 98% blue finish, attractive polished finish on the action, spot of dried grease behind the left fence, a few small scuffs on the barrels, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the wood. LOT 1561 Factory Game Scene Engraved W. & C. Scott & Son “The Premier Quality” Sidelock Shotgun with Crystal Cocking Indicators - Serial no. 41425, 12 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Damascus steel barrels with a single brass bead sight on the matted flat solid rib, factory markings on the barrels, bands of engraving at the breech, and chambers measured 2 1/2 inch chambers with a single extractor. The casehardened sidelock action displays scroll engraving with game bird scenes showing three quail, a goose, and a capercallie on the left, four ducks on the right, and four herons on the underside along with a gold Maltese cross on the triggerguard. The gun features gas checked firing pins, double triggers, an automatic safety, and crystal cocking indicators. Nicely figured replacement forend and stock with multi-point checkering, engraved fittings, a gold inscription oval at the upper tang with monogram, and a checkered bare butt. Stock measurements: 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Very good, showing mostly strong Damascus patterns on the barrels, some original case colors under a layer of varnish on the action, mild handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the wood. Factory Engraved W. R. Pape Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun - Serial no. 2233, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Damascus steel barrels with a single bead sight (broken) on the smooth solid rib which is marked with Pape’s address, correct period London proofs, 2
1/2 inch chambers with single extractor, and choke constrictions of .003/.005 inches. The casehardened hammer action utilizes Pape’s patent thumb lever release and hammers and displays scroll engraving
and Pape signatures on the lock. Attractively figured, multi-point checkered forend with wedge fastener and straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points and a steel heel and toe plates around a checkered bare butt. Includes an oak & leather takedown case with cleaning tools. Stock measurements:
1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 10 oz. CONDITION: Fine overall, showing a smooth brown patina on the barrels with nice patterns, smooth
grey on the action, a few spots of minor oxidation, mild handling evidence, a few dings in the stock and forend, and worn but well-defined checkering on the nicely re-oiled wood. The case is good. Mechanically Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Factory Engraved John Rigby & Co. Sidelever Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 16480, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/bright finish, walnut stock. Manufactured between 1895 and 1900 per the information given on page 128 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. Blued steel barrels with a single bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked with the Rigby address, light engraving at the breech along with a gold inlaid “2”, London nitro proofs on the flats, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The polished sidelever rising third bite sidelock action displays extensive scroll engraving with
“Jno Rigby & Co.” on either lockplate and a gold “2” at the base of the upper tang. The gun features double triggers and an automatic tang safety.
