walnut stock. Manufactured in 1933 and was subsequently elaborately master embellished by Angelo Bee. Bee was one of the premier outside custom engravers of Winchesters. Red bead front and brass bead mid sights on the matted ventilated rib, a flourish of gold inlay at the muzzle and collar with some light engraving on the barrel collar and magazine retainer as well as a gold inlaid quail on the magazine cap, and gold inlaid arrow and pigeon on the magazine tube. The receiver displays a game scene on either side consisting of quail on the left in a farm scene, and pigeons on the right at the forrest edge. The scene panels are coin with raised relief gold inlaid animals and wire borders surrounded by floral scroll with a gold inlaid border on both sides. The top of the receiver is embellished with more floral scroll with magnificent use of negative space and a gold inlaid woodcock at the rear. A Gamble’s Quail is inlaid in gold on the triggerguard flanked by light flourishes of floral scroll. The gold inlay on this gun is so extensive that even the barrel markings, serial number, and “WP” proofs are inlaid in gold. The work is signed on both sides with the left side having the addition of Bee’s signature “bee” logo. Mounted with a magnificently figured, fancy checkered walnut slide handle and pistol grip stock with Winchester buttplate. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Angelo bee with a completion date of April 12, 2019 and a black leather
takedown case with a Winchester trade label. Stock measurements: 1 9/16 inch drop at the comb; 2 9/16 inch drop at the heel; 14 3/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as embellished by Master Engraver Angelo Bee, retaining 99% plus blue finish with limited light handling marks, and crisp engraving. Wood is near mint excellent with minimal handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This magnificent shotgun would be welcome in any Winchester or shotgun collection! Engraved and Gold Inlaid Winchester Model 90 Slide Action Rifle -
Serial no. 843990, 22 S cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1931 and subsequently upgraded. Fitted with beaded blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights, standard barrel address and Winchester trademark marking on the upper
tang with the serial number on the lower tang. The barrel on the muzzle has
a line and gold inlaid dot motif with a band around both ends of the barrel and
wavy lines at the edges of each flat. The receiver, bolt, and trigger group have a combination of wavy line and zig-zag borders with gold inlaid borders inside that. Inside the gold inlaid borders is near full coverage floral scroll engraving. The center of the left side has a game scene depicting a rabbit in a forest and the right side has gold inlaid initials “RSR”. Though the work is unsigned, it bears a striking resemblance to that of well known engraver Jeff Flannery. Mounted in a straight grain walnut 12 groove forend and straight grip stock with butt plate engraved to match.
CONDITION: Very fine as custom upgraded, retaining 95% blue finish with some oxidation and pitting on the barrel, spotting on the receiver, and crisp engraving. The highly varnished wood is also very fine with scattered dings and scratches and a gouge near the toe. Mechanically excellent.
