Attractive Pair of Silver Mounted E. North “Queen Anne”
     Flintlock Pistols
-A) North Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 65 cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., bright/silver finish, walnut grips. This classic pair of Queen Anne pistols from the second quarter of the
18th century are marked “E NORTH” on the undersides above London proofs flanking the “EN” maker’s mark for
gunmaker Edward North of London who was active c. 1733-1761. They are also marked “1” and “2” respectively. The top of the breeches are marked “LONDON”, and there is some scroll and border engraving. The smoothbore, cannon style barrels have turned rings and light engraved breech end borders. The walnut stocks have raised relief shell carving and silver mounts consisting of classic grotesque mask pommel caps, martial pattern side plates, and wrist escutcheons with shell and scroll accents. CONDITION: Very good overall with mottled gray patina and minor oxidation on the iron, attractive aged patina on the silver, minor dings and scratches on the wood, and crisp engraving and relief carving. Mechanically fine. B) North Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 65 cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., bright/silver finish, walnut grips. CONDITION: Very good overall with gray patina and some minor oxidation on the iron, attractively aged patina on the silver, general mild wear including small scratches and dings on the grip, and crisp engraving and relief carving. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500

Silver Mounted James Freeman “Queen Anne” Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 5 3/8 inch round bbl., bright/silver finish, walnut grips. This
Queen Anne style pistol was manufactured by James Freeman of London who was an active gunmaker circa 1716-1736. The pistol has “JAMES FREEMAN” on the lower right under the frizzen
spring, “LONDON” on top at the breech, and London proof and view markings flanking Freeman’s “crown/IF” mark on the upper left. The cannon style
screw-off barrel has turned rings and a stud for removal with a barrel wrench (absent). The highly figured grip has silver mounts, including the classic Georgian grotesque mask pommel cap. CONDITION: Good overall with smooth gray and brown patina on the iron, dark aged patina on the silver, and some cracks and repairs in the grip. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,250

Unusual Pair of Silver Inlaid Flintlock Pistols by Collis of Oxford -A) Collis Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 6 5/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut grips. These large flintlock pistols are both signed “COLLIS” on the left and “OXFORD” on the right in banners. John Collis is listed as an active gunmaker circa 1782- 1798. Both pistols feature light engraving, sliding safeties, extensive silver wire inlays in the walnut grips with oval silver escutcheons bearing inscribed fancy script initials “WC,” and 1800 hallmark dated silver mask pommel caps. CONDITION: Very good with some slight fading to some of the engraving and markings, scattered light pitting on the iron, and lightly aged patina on the silver. The grip is fine with a few of the wire inlays sticking up and some light handling marks. Mechanically fine. B) Collis Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 6 5/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut grips. Reference “A” description. CONDITION: Very good with some slight fading to some of the engraving and markings, scattered light pitting on the iron, and lightly aged patina on the silver. The grip is fine with a few of the wire inlays sticking up and some light handling marks. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500

Silver Mounted Hawkins “Queen Anne” Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 6 3/8 inch round bbl., bright/ silver finish, walnut grips. This pistol from c. 1720- 1750 by John Hawkins has a smoothbore, three-stage
“cannon” barrel with a lug for removal with a barrel wrench (absent). The underside of the frame at the breech is stamped “HAWKINS” over London proofs flanking the
“crown/IH” maker’s mark. The top also has “LONDON”, and there is some scroll and foliate engraving. The stock has shell carving at the top, and the mounts are silver, including a classic grotesque mask pommel cap
with small hallmarks. CONDITION: Very good overall with gray patina and minor pitting on the iron, small chip at the top of the frizzen, attractive aged patina on the silver, some
scrapes and faint cracks visible on the grip, and crisp carving and engraving. Mechanically fine.
