The fence, toplever, both tangs, and
trigger guard all feature the floral
scroll over a darkened background
giving depth to the engraving as
well as a gold inlaid set of “JMG” initials
on the guard and Renato Caem’s serial
number “N003” on the lower tang, with numbers
“002” and “004” available in the previous and following lots. The
engraving is signed on the triggerplate “Creative Art” for the world
renowned firm. The gun features double gold triggers and a tang
mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S” indicator. The gun is
fitted with a gorgeous highly figured and multi-point checkered
semi-beavertail forend with engraved iron and an inlaid gold Caem crest. The straight hand stock is of the
same excellent figure and features matching checkering and a checkered bare butt. Included is a leather flat case with maker’s label and brass corners.
The case contains a set of nickel snap caps, a nickel oiler, and a compliment of cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine
inches from the breech proofed and measured at 14.0 (.551 inches); choke constriction .005/.016 inches; minimum wall thickness .026/.030 inches; 1 7/16
inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 5 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence, a few light scratches near the toe, and sharp
checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The case is also excellent. This is a great highly attractive Italian subgauge gun!

Caem 28 Gauge Double Barrel
Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 5743, 28 gauge, 28 inch solid rib
bbl., blue/coin/gold finish, walnut stock. Built with blued steel
chopperlump barrels featuring a single white bead sight on the
hand filed cut concave solid rib which is engraved “RENATO CAEM
MARCHENO ITALY” in a panel near the base, 2002 dated Italian proof
marks on the flats, single band of light engraving at the breech,
engraving to match the action on the exposed bottom of the front
lump, and 2 3/4 inch chamber with automatic ejectors. The barrels
are fitted to the coin finished scalloped boxlock action, likely by
Piotti, which is scaled for 28 gauge and displays highly attractive
tight scroll engraving cut through with scrolling vines tipped with
floral bouquets and a beautifully executed woodcock scene on the
underside accented in gold beneath the
gold inlaid “RENATO CAEM”
maker’s mark.
