The barrels are fitted to the scalloped
boxlock action, likely by Piotti, which
displays highly attractive tight scroll
engraving cut through with scrolling
vines tipped with floral bouquets.
There is a handsomely executed scene
depicting a pair of pheasant cocks on the
underside accented in gold beneath the gold inlaid
“RENATO CAEM” maker’s mark. The fence, toplever, both tangs, and trigger
guard all feature the deeply cut floral scroll over a darkened background as
well as a gold inlaid set of “JMG” initials on the guard and Renato Caem’s serial
number “N004” on the lower tang, with numbers “002” and “003” available in
the previous two lots. The engraving is signed on the triggerplate “Creative
Art” for the world renowned firm. The gun features double gold triggers and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S” indicator. The gun is fitted with a
lovely well-figured and multi-point checkered semi-beavertail forend with engraved iron and an inlaid gold Caem crest. The straight hand stock is of the same
excellent figure and features matching checkering with a diamond point at either side of the wrist and a checkered bare butt. Included is a leather flat case
with maker’s label, brass corners, and padded canvas cover. The case contains a set of nickel snap caps, a nickel oiler, and a compliment of cleaning tools. Barrel
and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech proofed and measured at 18.5 mm (.728 inches); choke constriction .013/.028 inches;
minimum wall thickness .029/.028 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 5/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence. The stock shows some light dings and scratches
concentrated on the left side; otherwise, the wood is excellent with sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is excellent. A great opportunity to own a fine
Italian double!
