Attractive Antique Winchester Model 1890 Deluxe Slide Action
Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 17902, 22 RF Short cal., 24
inch octagon bbl., blue finish, highly figured checkered walnut stock.
Manufactured in 1893. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .22 Short caliber, with blue finish and
a fancy checkered stock when received at the warehouse on 6 April 1893, and shipped on 7 December 1893 with
four other Model 1890s in order number 5833. Standard blade front and fixed notch rear sights, first style barrel
inscription, “22 SHORT” on top barrel flat at the breech, Second Model receiver with hidden locking lugs, and standard
markings on the upper tang with installed flip up peep sight. Short 12 groove slide handle and highly figured XXX fancy walnut, checkered straight
grip stock with casehardened crescent steel buttplate. The lower tang, upper tang stock inlet, and inside of the buttplate are marked with assembly
number “3” and the lower tang is marked “XXX” for the wood grade.
CONDITION: Fine with 50% plus original blue finish on the barrel and receiver, areas of
some edge wear, scattered small dings and scratches, small patch antiqued finish on
the top of the receiver at the breech. The refinished wood is fine with scattered small
dings, attractive figure. Mechanically excellent.

Winchester Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle in .22 Long with Factory Letter -
Serial no. 199896, 22 L cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured
in 1904. Beaded blade front and elevation adjustable rear notch sights, third style barrel inscription “22 LONG”
caliber marking on upper barrel flat at the breech, Second Model receiver with hidden locking lugs, checkered
casehardened hammer, and standard three-line model, maker, and trademark marking on the upper tang.
12 groove slide handle and smooth straight grip stock with casehardened steel crescent buttplate. The included factory
letter lists the rifle in caliber “S” when received at the warehouse on 27 June 1904, and shipped the following day in order
number T112868. The rifle is currently in .22 Long, which appears to be correct, indicating the factory ledger recording was likely an error.
CONDITION: Very fine with 85% bright original high polish blue finish, areas of moderate
pitting on the left side of the barrel and magazine tube, cycling marks on the receiver rails,
and scattered spotting and mild brown patina on the receiver. The wood is also very fine
with small dings and scratches, and traces of original case colors on the buttplate with a
dove gray patina on the balance. Mechanically excellent.

Very Fine Winchester Deluxe Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle in
Desirable .22 W.R.F. Caliber with Factory Letter - Serial no. 157544, 22
WRF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, highly figured checkered walnut pistol grip stock.
Manufactured in 1903, the included factory letter confirms a shipment date of February 4,
1903, in order number 177335. Beaded blade front and elevation adjustable rear notch sights, third
style barrel inscription, “22 W.R.F.” caliber marking on top flat at the breech, Winchester proofs correctly
absent, “WRF” marking on front face of the Second Model receiver with hidden locking lugs, three-
line maker, model, and patent marking on the upper tang, and flip up tang peep sight. 12 groove
slide handle and nicely figured XX fancy checkered walnut pistol grip stock with Winchester hard
rubber grip cap, and casehardened crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is stamped “16222 XX” with the
matching assembly number “16222” on the end of the buttstock and inside of the buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine with 90% plus bright original blue finish , some scattered small
surface scratches, and some light brown patina on the lower tang and trigger guard. The
buttstock is also very fine with attractive figure, crisp, moderately worn checkering, visible
small dings and scratches, and 80% of the original case colors on the buttplate. Forearm
shows casual dents and dings. Mechanically excellent.
