in 1853, Alexander Henry was most famous for being the designer of the Henry rifling and barrel used on the Martini-Henry rifle.
Henry was appointed “gun

the Prince of Wales” in 1872. The company
also manufactured high quality single and double barrel rifles and shotguns. This shotgun was manufactured in 2005 and
features a single brass bead sight
on the smooth solid concave rib marked “ALEXR HENRY 21 FREDRICK
STREET EDINBURGH”. The breech end of the barrels are engraved
with two thin bands of geometric designs. The barrel flats are nitro
proofed and are marked with “14- 1”, “28” in a diamond, “70MM” and “950 BAR”. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table and the bottom of the right barrel. The water table
is also marked with two “crown/GP” proofmarks. The scallop box lock action
features Celtic designs and “ALEXR HENRY”
in a panel on each side. The engraving
designs extends to the trigger guard,
forearm hardware and break lever. 2 3/4
inch chambers with ejectors, and choked
improved modified/full. Mounted with a
nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut
forearm and straight grip stock with a finely
checkered bare butt. Comes with a hard
leather takedown case with leather corner
protectors, straps and handle, and red felt
lining. In the case is a nickel oiler and two
ebony and brass snap caps. There is an Alex Henry label affixed to the inside of the lid. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 14.1 mm (.555 inches) and both measured .554
inches; choke constriction .016/.024 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.027 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 15 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 5 lbs 12 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent. The shotgun retains 99% of the original blue and casehardened finish showing some very mild fading of the case colors on the edges and light overall handling/storage marks. The wood is also excellent with some minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The engraving and markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine. The case is very good plus with a couple scratches on the exterior and some loose fabric on the inside.
