Scarce Pre-War 1906/34
Portuguese “Mauser
Banner” Contract “GNR”
Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 2447v, 7.65 mm Luger
cal., 4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut checkered grips.
This is a fine original example of a Mauser Banner contract Luger
with the very desirable intertwined “GNR” logo on top of the chamber
area. These pistols were virtually unheard of in this country until
approximately 20+ years ago when a small quantity was purchased overseas
and eventually imported. There were exactly 564 pistols produced in total in this contract
run with the serial numbers being in the 1921v-2484v range. As noted, surviving examples
are scarce in any condition, and, based on the condition of this example, this is one of the
best we have seen. These models were made expressly for the Portuguese military and have the 1906 style frame with no stock lug, fast taper barrel and the grip safety. The top of the chamber area, as noted, is marked with the large intertwined “GNR” logo of the “GARDE NATIONALE REPUBLICANE” (Republican National Guard) with the desirable “Mauser” banner logo on top of the toggle. The underside of the barrel and right
side of the barrel extension has the small Crown over “U” commercial proof. They are numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number located on the front of the frame, the underside of the barrel and the right side of

Unique “M” Prefix German DWM Model
1920 Police Luger Semi-Automatic
Pistol, Serial Number “M28”, with Holster
and Extra Magazine - Serial no. M28, 9 mm
cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, hardwood
grips. Manufactured without a chamber date
and bearing a combination of commercial
and military proofmarks, this Luger has a
serial number of “m28” on the receiver and
frame, with “28” on many other components.
The use of a letter prefix in the serial number runs contrary to traditional German military numbering schemes, with some suggestion that the “m” was intended to denote a sample or prototype weapon. Page 243 of Still’s “Weimar and Early Nazi Lugers” features the “m10” Luger, and notes it as one of only four “m” Lugers reported, along with this pistol. Fixed sights, with the “DWM” logo on the front toggle link, “crown/N” proofs on the barrel, receiver and breechblock, and “eagle/H” and “eagle/WaA66” on the right side of the chamber. “GESICHERT” and “GELADEN” markings are present on the upper safety position and extractor, with the sear safety installed on the receiver and remnants of a now-disabled magazine well safety on the frame. The grips are blank and the magazine mixed; otherwise, parts are matching overall. Fitted with straw finished small parts, checkered grips and a nickel finished alloy base magazine. Included with the lot is a brown leather flap holster marked “ROBERT LARSEN/BERLIN/1935” on the back, extra magazine and takedown tool.
CONDITION: Very fine, with 80% of the arsenal blue finish, showing some bright edge wear, a gray patina on the gripstraps, scattered spotting and mild handling marks. Some of the components may be renumbered, with the sideplate showing a polished area on the underside where a commercial serial number would be. 40% of the straw colors are present, with mild dings and scuffs on the grips. The holster is very good, with some cracking and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The Paul Crockett Jr. Collection.
Estimate: 2,500 - 3,750

DWM 1916 Dated Military
Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine
- Serial no. 6056M, 9 mm cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish,
hardwood grips. Fixed sights, with the “1916” date on the
chamber and “DWM” monogram on the toggle. Three “crown/
letter” proofs on the extension, with the Imperial Eagle firing proof
on the barrel, extension and breechblock. Fitted with straw finished small
parts, niter blue pins and springs, “GESICHERT” and “GELADEN” marked safety area
and extractor, and checkered hardwood grips. Matching serial numbers are present
overall, including inside the grips and on the magazine base, which has a “+” spare magazine mark.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 90% plus original blue finish, showing some bright edge wear, minor spotting and light handling marks. 80% of the original straw colors are present on the small parts, with strong niter blue on the seat spring. The grips are fine, with a chip absent near the safety switch and minor dings
on the otherwise crisp checkering.
Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The Paul Crockett Jr.
Collection.
Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
the barrel extension. The breech block, trigger,
take down lever, and side plate all have the last two digits of the serial number. They have the inverted “v” fixed front sight and fixed rear sight. They have the rust blued finish with straw colored small parts and checkered walnut grips, and this pistol is complete with a late nickel plated magazine with an unmarked aluminum base.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 90% of the original blue finish with some light thinning and blue loss on the front and rear grip strap, the edged and high spots such as the left side of the front sight base, the front edges of the frame rails and the side plate hump. The small parts retain 60% of the fragile straw colors. The grips are very fine with a nice dark brown matching color on each side and light wear across the tops of the checkering in the center of the grip panels and a few small minor nicks and very small flat spots all from general use. This is just an exceptional high condition, rare 1906/34 Portuguese contract Luger, certainly for the advanced Luger collector.
Estimate: 3,000 - 4,750

The sear safety has lost tension and does not consistently block the sear, otherwise mechanically functions fine.
Provenance: The Paul Crockett Jr. Collection.
