Finely Engraved and Gold Inlaid M.A. Saam Left-Handed Rotary Underlever Stalking Rifle - NSN, 10 mm cal., 25 3/4 inch octagon bbl., blue/gold/casehardened finish,

  a diamond and dot pattern “matting” and is fitted with dovetailed blade and notch sights.
The barrel also has a pair of gold bands at both the muzzle
and breech and a latter engraved border at the latter. It has no caliber markings but measures around .40 caliber (slightly over 10 mm) at the muzzle and has a “78/41” marking along with the German proofs and a “CS” marking on the bottom of
the barrel. It may be in 10.5x47R given other rifles by Saam noted in that caliber. The back action lock is mounted on the left side and is signed “M.A. SAAM” and “FRANKFURT A/M” in a pair of banners. The lock, the action, and the fittings
have gold inlaid borders, scroll engraving, and floral accents. The trigger guard features a gold inlaid monogram that appears to be “CL” and has a horn grip extension with carved scrolls at the rear. The upper tang is fitted with a folding peep sight, and the action is equipped with adjustable double set triggers. The wood has excellent figure. The forearm and wrist of the buttstock are finely checkered, and cheek rest is on the right side for use by a left handed shooter. Sling swivels are mounted on the bottom of the barrel and bottom of the butt. The buttplate has a checkering pattern that coordinates with the barrel “matting” and has an empty compartment. CONDITION: Fine with 85% of the period refurbished blue finish remaining on the barrel and thinning to a smooth plum brown tone, 25% of the period refurbished case colors, essentially all of the original gold inlays, 70% plus original blue finish on the trigger guard, and crisp markings and engraving. There is some minor wear including faint oxidation/pitting. The wood is also very fine and has distinct checkering, attractive figure, minor dings, and minor age and handling related wear. Mechanically excellent. This is a classic German sporting rifle in fine condition. It is especially rare given its left-handed configuration. Estimate: 6,000 - 10,000

Fine Antique Relief Engraved and Gold Inlaid E. Schmidt & Habermann Back Action Hammer Drilling - Serial no. 8290, 16/11mm gauge, 27 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue/ casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued Damascus steel shotgun barrels and fluid steel rifle barrel with a beaded blade front sight and flip-up rear sight on the matted solid rib which is marked “E. Schmidt & Haberman, Suhl.” in fine gold inlay along with multi-color gold scroll at the base of the rib and in wedges at either breech. The casehardened back action displays deep floral scroll with game scenes and features
rebounding hammers, tang mounted barrel selector, and tang peep sight. Nicely figured checkered
forend and round pistol grip stock with cheekpiece three letter initials in inscription oval, and engraved steel trapdoor buttplate. Length of pull 13 7/8 inches. Weight 7 lbs. 5 oz.
CONDITION: Fine, showing a smooth brown patina on the barrels, smooth grey patina on the action and locks, light handling evidence, some light spotting in areas, and overall sharp checkering on the very fine wood. Mechanically needs work as shotgun firing pins and left lock mainspring are absent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Factory Game Scene Engraved E. Munch & Co. Drilling Two Barrel Set - Serial no. 190., 16/9.3x72R gauge, 25 5/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/ coin finish, walnut stock. Blued barrels with beaded blade front and fixed rear sight on the matted solid rib, German style claw mounts, 2 3/4 inch shotgun chamber with extractor, and choke constriction of .037 inches. The coin finished boxlock action features a fox and mallards on the left and a hound over a roe buck on the right all surrounded by leafy scroll. The gun features double triggers (front is a single set), tang mounted barrel selector, and a trigger bar safety. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and horn grip cap and buttplate. Included is an extra set of matching triple shotgun barrels which measure 27 1/2 inches and have 2 1/2 inch chambers. Length of pull 13 15/16 inches (cast-off ). Weight 7 lbs. 14 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% original blue and coin finishes with light handling evidence and scattered minor spotting. The wood is very good with a coat of varnish, some dings and scratches, and some wear along the top of the checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250
