Howard Dove Signed, Factory Engraved, and Gold Inlaid Winchester Model 70 XTR Sporter Bolt Action Rifle - Serial no. G1834847, 300 WBY magnum cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Marked in gold with model and two line address on the left of the barrel and with two gold inlaid bands around the muzzle and gold and scroll engraved floral patterns at the chamber. Features a fine floral scroll engraved and gold inlaid receiver with gold border accents, gold “WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-” on the left wall and serial number in gold on the right side of the receiver ring. The barrel is manufactured without sights and the top of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped. The floor plate, trigger guard, and grip cap are engraved with the same floral scroll design, with a big horn ram in the center of the floor plate with gold bordering, with Howard Dove’s signature located behind the trigger guard. Howard Dove was known as the “Official Engraver” by the Colt Collectors Association, and one of only two
and crisp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 8,000 - 12,000
     engravers in more modern times to be employed by both the Colt custom shop and Winchester at the same time before his death in 1994. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam war, where he served as a member of the Green Berets in country. Jeweled bolt and follower, with checkered ring on the bolt handle. Mounted with an American black walnut pistol grip stock with fancy bordered checkered forearm and wrist, with grip cap, solid rubber recoil pad and sling swivel studs. CONDITION: Excellent overall as embellished by master engraver Howard Dove, retaining 99% plus of original blue finish with a few minor handling marks, including a dent in the cheek rest
   LOT 509 Excellent Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle in Rare .35 Remington - Serial no. 70234, 35 Rem cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1947 during the transition period (late 1945 to 1951) when the .35 Remington caliber was introduced and offered for a short time before being discontinued. The barrel is dated “47” underneath with “R” stamped 1 1/2 inches ahead. Hooded ramp front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, and standard factory markings. The straight tang action features a polished matching numbered bolt, transitional safety, straight receiver tang, and filler screws in the scope base holes. Straight grain, multi-point checkered, pistol grip stock with sling swivels and checkered steel buttplate. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 98% plus original blue finish with only minor handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock. Mechanically excellent.
