Gold Inlaid Westley Richards Super Magnum Explora Droplock Double
Barrel Ejector Shot & Ball Gun - Serial no. C9460, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Shot & ball guns such as this one were
once quite popular, giving the user the utility of two guns in one, and the ability to take game from upland birds
to dangerous game on the plains of Africa and jungles of India. This gun was manufactured in 1909 per page 127 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. Blued steel barrels with a beaded blade front sight, five folding leaf rear sight on the
matted rear quarter rib, “WESTLEY RICHARDS. 178. NEW BOND St. LONDON” and “SUPER MAGNUM Explora” marked on the right and left barrels respectively, rifled chokes, correct period Birmingham proof marks, and bands of engraving at the breeches. The vibrantly casehardened hand detachable droplock action is marked with very attractive simple “WESTLEY RICHARDS.” in fine gold inlay on either side. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted automatic safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE” marking. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with Deeley latch release, and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval, gold star inlaid in the right side of the stock, and leather covered recoil pad. Length of pull 15 1/8 inches. Weight 8 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% professionally reapplied blue finish, 95% plus original case colors, minor handling evidence, and some silvering on the forend shoe. The wood is also very fine with a few minor pressure marks and scratches, some wear to the recoil pad, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

and chambers with automatic ejectors. The casehardened hand detachable backlock action displays light border engraving with flourishes around some of the pins along with “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” marked on either lockplate and “CHARGE 75 GRAINS CORDITE/500/465/CASE 3 1/4 INCHES” marked on the underside. The rifle features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE” marking. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with scroll engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with engraved casehardened grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, blank inscription oval, rear sling swivel, and red rubber recoil pad. Includes an oak & leather case with factory trade label, nickel oiler, two brass snap caps, and cleaning tools. Length of pull 15 inches. Weight 10 lbs. 15 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% professionally reapplied blue finish which has turned an attractive brown patina, 95% refinished case colors, minor handling marks on the metal and wood, faded markings on the barrels, slightly oversized recoil pad spacer, and overall sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case is very fine with light wear. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500
