LOT 1436 Desirable Cased Charles Lancaster .476 CF Double Barrel Over/Under Howdah Pistol - Serial no. 7724, 476 CF cal., 6 3/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This pistol is based on the A.A. Thorn patent like the four barrel version. Only around 233 of the two barrel pistols were made. These are further subdivided into different calibers and frame styles. This pistol has a German silver blade front sight on an integral solid rib, fixed groove/notch rear sight on the top of the action, “CHARLES LANCASTER, PATENT, 151, NEW BOND ST, LONDON.” on top of the upper barrel, London proofs, and “476 CF” in the left side of the concave center rib. The face of the action has the Lancaster patent marking twice. The serial number is on the bottom of the trigger guard, “45” is on the bottom of the barrel group and frame, and the pistol is fitted with checkered walnut grips and a lanyard loop on the butt. It comes in a leather case with a Lancaster trade label, an ammo tin, a cleaning rod, and a brass lid escutcheon with a monogram consisting of the letters H, W, and I. CONDITION: Fine with 40% original blue finish, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, mild oxidation, and general mild overall wear. The grips are also fine and have crisp checkering, light scratches and dings, and minor handling wear. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine and has aged patina on the escutcheon and partially disassembled lock, absent straps, and general mild age and storage related wear. Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500

Rare Cased Woodward’s Patent Swivel Barrel Double Barrel Pistol - Serial no. 897, 44 RF cal., 4 3/8 inch solid rib bbl., casehardened/blue finish, checkered walnut grips. The rifled barrels are casehardened and have brass cone front sights, Birmingham proofs, and “897” on the rib. The blue action has “WOODWARD’S/No 897/REGT FEBY 4, 1863” in an oval on the left side, a lanyard loop on the butt, and “897” at the heel. The pistol comes in a fitted hardwood case with green baize lining, a screwdriver, cleaning rod, and oiler. CONDITION: Very fine with 75% plus original casehardened finish, 80% plus original blue finish, mostly bright hammer, some smooth brown patina, and light age and storage related wear. The grips are also very fine and have crisp checkering and minor handling wear. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are fine and have mild storage wear. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
