Exceptional Antique Marlin Model 1895 Lever
Action Saddle Ring Carbine in Highly Desirable
.45-90 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 160138,
45-90 WCF cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened
finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1897, this is an
exceptional example of the robust Marlin Model 1895
saddle ring carbine chambered in the venerable .45-90
W.C.F. The included factory letter lists the carbine in .45-90 caliber
with a 22 inch barrel when shipped on 29 August 1901. These Model 1895s were essentially an up-sized
version of the L.L. Hepburn designed Model 1893, with the intention of creating an updated replacement
for the large frame Model 1881 which was capable of chambering large and powerful cartridges, such as the
.45-90 Government in this example. These Marlin lever actions had already gained a reputation for their rugged
reliability and remained widely popular in the American West well into the 20th century, particularly in powerful calibers capable of
handling any danger like this one. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates as well as the
caliber marking at the breech. The top of the receiver has the Marlin Safety marking, the model marking is on the upper tang, and the
serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a block blade front sight, a folding ladder rear sight, and a saddle
ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 90% of the original blue finish, 80% plus of the vibrant original case colors on the receiver, lever,
and hammer, and 60% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with some scattered light handling marks, light edge/handling
wear, and the buttplate mostly grey patina. The professionally revarnished wood is very fine with some scattered minor dings and dents.
Mechanically excellent. A high condition Marlin Model 1895 in the revered .45-90 W.C.F. caliber!
Provenance: The Tom Selleck Collection.
Estimate: 20,000 - 30,000
