Model of 1950 Pre-Model 24
Double Action Revolver with Scarce 4
Inch Barrel and Factory Letter - Serial no. S147795, 44
S&W special cal., 4 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut
grips. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver
was shipped on March 29, 1957 and delivered to Dakon
Sporting Goods Co. of Bangor, Maine, with a 4 inch
barrel, target trigger, blue finish, and checkered grips.
The 4 inch barrel is a scarce special order feature, with
only approximately 500 manufactured per research by
Roy Jinks and Bill Cross, as 6 1/2 inches was the standard
barrel length. The revolver features a ramp blade front
sight featuring a red insert, adjustable white outlined
square notch rear sight, and rare “W” style main spring.
Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, cylinder,
and ejector shroud.
CONDITION: Excellent with 95% plus original blue finish
and some minor handling wear. The grips are very fine with crisp
checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Special Order “McGivern Model” Smith & Wesson .38/44
Outdoorsman (Pre-War) Double Action Revolver with Rare
5 Inch Barrel, Box, and Factory Letter - Serial no. 43281, 38
S&W Special cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, checkered walnut
grips. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was
shipped on June 18, 1934 and delivered to Seattle Hardware Co.
of Seattle, Washington, and confirms the 5 inch barrel, 1/8 inch
McGivern gold bead front sight, and blue finish. The 5 inch barrel
is a scarce special order feature as 6 1/2 inches was standard
length. This special 5 inch variation was nicknamed the “McGivern
Model.” Copies of factory records related to this revolver indicate
that the gun was part of an order for 56 handguns (30 K-22, 10 6 1/2 inch
.38/44 Outdoorsman, 8 of the special 5 inch .38/44s, and 8 .38 Military & Police
revolvers) placed by the Smith & Wesson sales agent McDonald & Linforth.
These revolvers were “for the police department and revolver clubs in and
around Seattle.” Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, right grip panel,
cylinder, and ejector shroud. Includes a period correct S&W box.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine overall, retaining 90% plus original blue finish
with high edge wear, a couple patches of light pitting, some handling marks,
and mostly crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is very
good with some water staining. A scarce and documented 5 inch S&W .38/44
Outdoorsman revolver missing from even the most advanced collections.

Excellent Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Model of
1905 3rd Change Target Double Action Revolver with
Box - Serial no. 207752, 38 S&W Special cal., 6 inch round
bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured from 1909-1915.
This is a high condition example of the target variation
to S&W’s .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 3rd Change
revolver. This highly sought after revolver is fitted with a
pinned blade front sight, an adjustable U-notch rear sight, and checkered S&W medallion walnut grips. Matching
serial numbers appear on the butt, right grip panel, cylinder, and barrel. The replacement, renumbered to match
maroon S&W box features a .38 M&P end label with “Target” marked in pencil with “nickel”
removed and “blue” written above.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 98% plus bright original high polish blue finish, 99% striking original case
colors on the hammer and trigger, minimal handling wear, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. The
box is very fine. A very attractive, high condition S&W .38 M&P that will be hard to improve upon.

Smith & Wesson .38/44 Outdoorsman (Pre-War) Double Action
Revolver with Factory Box - Serial no. 42890, 38 S&W Special cal., 6
1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured between
1931 and 1941 as one of only 4,761 reported produced. It has standard
markings including matching serial numbers on the butt, rear face of
the cylinder, and inside the ejector rod housing. The matching assembly
number is on the frame and crane. It is fitted with a red bead Patridge
blade front sight, period “ghost ring” type adjustable rear sight, and a
pair of checkered walnut magna grips with “S&W” monogram medallions.
Includes an unnumbered correct factory box.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% plus of the original blue finish and 90% plus
of the original case colors with some light muzzle/edge wear, a few light handling
marks, and a cylinder turn line. The grips are also excellent with a few light
handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good
with scuffs and edge wear overall.
