Monumental African Black Rhinoceros Bronze - Massive and mighty bronze African black
rhinoceros. This
classic unsigned rhino is
from the school of French artist
Antoine L. Barye (19th century) and
depicts a walking rhino with head up
going forward to face the challenges
of his existence that confronted him in
regards to his survival. This survival mode is still in existence today as he is faced with extinction for his horns that bring great fortunes in today’s as well as yesterday’s market. The hand chased body, hoofs, and horns depict the animal in the past as well as in today’s view. This bronze makes a statement and highly detailed, with quite an impressive stature. Measurements 96x29x45 inches. Weight approximately 500 lbs.
CONDITION: Very good overall with scattered light
scuffing on the feet and some of the green having
thinned on the tips of the horns.

Unsigned Leaping Gazelle Bronze - This great Animalier subject matter is very characteristic of the 19th century
Animalier school that depicts animals in their natural state.
This gazelle is leaping forward with no legs touching the
ground as she is being spooked by a mortal enemy. Her
curved spiral horns flow backwards with her running stance.
This bronze rests on an oval bronze plinth. These measurements are believed to be life size to the living animal. Tremendous detail in the face and body of the gazelle and would look good in any garden or home setting. Measurements: 65x32x61 inches. Weighs approximately 250 lbs.
CONDITION: Very good with limited storage and handling marks. Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000

Unmarked Elephant Bronze - This
unmarked bronze depicts an elephant
walking through a leaved landscape. Its trunk is raised
as if it is trumpeting to the heard as they move from place
to place. The elephant’s tusks are bronze painted to have the appearance and add contrast to the piece. It rests on a marble base and measures 31x10x20 inches.
CONDITION: Very fine with limited storage and handling marks, a few scratches in the paint on the tusks, and an attractive patina on the bronze.

Mirror Image Pair of Lion Bronzes -
Magnificent and impressive pair of mirror
image king of the jungle lions. These bronzes
are unsigned but attributed to
Antoine L. Barye (French 19th
century). The lions are lying
down with their front legs
extended forward, tail by
their side, and a upward
forward look by the heads as the
lions are in a guarded resting position. Great
chasing of each body showing the furry mane and
body hair covering the rest of the lions. The mirror
image of the lions are typical of the classic Anamalier
depictions showing mirror images of an animal.
Measurements: 65x24x24 inches. Weight: approximately 410 lbs for both statues. CONDITION: Very good with limited storage and handling marks.

Musk Ox

(Canadian 20th
Century). This
very dynamic animal is almost a symbol of the
upper Canadian Provinces & was commissioned
by this estate to represent a stately beast who could
withstand the harshness of the Canadian winters. The
heavily chased musk ox is looking forward standing
on all of his 4 legs on a ground plateau.
The horns of the ox are curved upward
and has a finely chased hair coat running
throughout his body to withstand the
blasts of the cold Canadian winter. The bronze
is signed on the bottom of the ground near the ox’s back leg and is numbered 1 of 57. Measures: 26x16x12 inches.
Weighs approximately 90 lbs.
CONDITION: Very good with limited storage and handling marks. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,500
LOT 3222
Signed Cape Buffalo Bronze Bust - This bust shows one of the majestic dangerous game animals which has brought hunters to Africa for over a century, the cape buffalo. The bronze bust is signed on the back with an illegible signature and is marked “20/35” next to the signature. It sits on a tall wooden pedestal and measures 24x17x14 inches including the pedestal.
CONDITION: Excellent with limited storage and handling marks and an attractive patina on the metal surfaces.
