LOT 1449
Exceptional and Highly Desirable and
Exceptional Parker Brothers 28 Gauge VHE
Grade Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 235938,
28 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened
finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1931. Only 503
28 gauge VH Grade guns with 28 inch barrels were
manufactured per the chart on page 258 of “The
Parker Story” by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and
Cote, and even fewer still, only 17% (approximately
85), were made with ejectors (VHE Grade) like this
gun, making this rare gun even rarer. The grade, gauge, barrel length, stock, and
ejectors below are confirmed on page 588 of “Parker Gun Identification & Serialization” by Price and Fjestad. This gun was
built with blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib which is marked “PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT.
U.S.A. VULCAN. STEEL”, and chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a casehardened size 00 frame boxlock
action which displays the classic Grade V zig-zag border engraving with “Parker Bros.” on either side and features double triggers and a tang mounted
automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a lightly figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend as well as a pistol grip stock with factory hard rubber
grip cap, blank silver inscription shield, and a Parker dog’s head buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the
breech .554/.555 inches; choke constriction .015/.018 inches; minimum wall thickness .023/.024 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel;
13 7/8 inch length of pull; weight 5 lbs. 12 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 98% original blue finish on the barrels, 95% plus original vibrant case colors on the receiver, 85% plus bright
original blue on the trigger guard, light handling evidence, some light scratches on the wood, a tiny stress line at the upper tang, and crisp checkering
on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. Do not miss out on this chance at a rare and high condition American small bore shotgun!
Estimate: 30,000 - 47,500
